On April 25, 2015, a massive magnitude-7.8 earthquake struck near Kathmandu, Nepal, killing nearly 9,000 people and injuring thousands more. The disaster reduced entire villages to rubble, triggered deadly avalanches on Mount Everest, and left millions in need of humanitarian aid.
