On April 30, 1945, Adolf Hitler and his wife, Eva Braun, committed suicide in an underground bunker in Berlin as Soviet forces advanced on the city. Their deaths marked the collapse of Nazi Germany, and Germany surrendered within days, bringing an end to World War II in Europe.
