On April 8th, 2003, scientists discovered that springtails (Collembola), once believed to be among the oldest ancestors of insects, actually evolved from a separate group that predates the divergence of crustaceans and insects. This revelation significantly altered our understanding of early arthropod evolution and their complex evolutionary paths.
