1986 Soviet Union Launches Core Module of Mir Space Station

On February 20th, 1986, the Soviet Union launched the core module of the Mir Space Station. This launch began the construction of the first long-term space station, which would remain operational for over 15 years. Mir provided invaluable insights into life in space and informed scientific research in microgravity, technology, and international collaboration in space exploration.
