On the Ides of March, Julius Caesar was assassinated by a group of Roman senators who feared his growing power and potential to become a dictator for life. His death triggered a series of civil wars, eventually leading to the fall of the Roman Republic and the rise of the Roman Empire under Augustus.

This painting, originally titled La morte di Cesare, was painted by Vincenzo Camuccini between 1804 and 1805 and depicts the death of Julius Caesar.
