1980 Smallpox Is Declared Eradicated 

On May 8th, 1980, the WHO declared smallpox eradicated, marking a monumental achievement in global public health. This marked the first time a disease was completely eliminated through vaccination, leading to the eventual discontinuation of the smallpox vaccine and saving millions of lives worldwide.
