On October 9, 2012, in a targeted attack on a school bus in Pakistan's Swat Valley, a Taliban gunman shot 15-year-old Malala Yousafzai for her outspoken advocacy of girls' education. The assassination attempt shocked the world, sparked widespread condemnation, and ignited a global movement for girls' rights to education. Malala survived the attack and went on to become a global symbol of resistance against extremism, later receiving the Nobel Peace Prize for her continued activism.
